Keeping Your Faith Amid Out-of-Control Circumstances
Hear incredible stories of Michele Rigby Assad’s 10-year career in the CIA. Through many hard-to-imagine and life-threatening experiences, Michele learned that life’s unexpected, unanticipated and unwelcome moments—no matter how painful—can be redeemed and transformed by God for His purposes and His glory. It’s a vital message in today’s world of unexpected and often unwelcome experiences. |
Michele Rigby Assad is a former undercover officer in the National Clandestine Service of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. After she and her husband, also a former agent, retired from active service, they helped lead a rescue mission to relocate internally displaced Iraqi Christians to Slovakia, which was featured on ABC’s 20/20. She holds a master’s degree in contemporary Arab studies from Georgetown University. Today she serves as an international security consultant. She is the author of “Breaking Cover: My Secret Life in the CIA and What It Taught Me About What’s Worth Fighting For” (Tyndale Momentum, 2018).

In this breakout session, public relations practitioner Elizabeth Bristow will discuss the importance of communicating gospel truth and demonstrating salt and light in an increasingly post-Christian culture.
- 1B - When God Calls, But the Bank Doesn’t
Is God calling you to use your gifts for his purpose, but there is no visible way to pay for it? Doug Keesey and Paul Wynn will lead a session based on their recent experience of launching a non-profit ministry to share the gospel with unreached people groups through video. They will speak about lessons learned (so far) on stepping out in faith and finding others who share your vision.
- 1C - How Lacking a Social Media Strategy Is Hurting Your Organization
Many leaders don't understand how to utilize social media channels in a way that will help their organization grow. It all comes down to this: Lacking a social media strategy can hurt an organization. In this workshop, Haley Veturis will discuss a strategy that will have you feeling confident in your social media presence, drive channel engagement, and ultimately, help grow your organization.
- 1D - The Power of Documentary Story-Telling (two sessions)
Walk with Chris Sinclair for a rare behind-the-scenes look at the production of "Free Burma Rangers" as it was filmed in the war zones of Burma and Iraq. Session 1 will focus on Chris’ video storytelling journey over the course of this eight-year project, some personal events that played a role in shaping the narrative and the main messages in the film.

Finding Your Voice and Sticking with It
Finding your organization’s one, true, inner message can be extremely hard to find and even harder to drill into your audience. But taking time to identify your organization’s core helps you better understand what message you should be vocalizing. And once you find it, you must commit to it long enough until you hear your audience naturally singing it. Brandon Pickett and Ish LaBiosa will talk about how they found their organization’s core message and how that is now flowing out and reverberating back.

Ish LaBiosa serves as media director for Innovative Faith Resources.
Brandon Pickett is associate executive for SBC of Virginia.

Keynote Address 2
Re-Invent: Is It Time to Revive Your Career and Calling?
The dictionary defines “reinvent” as “remake, redo, and bring back into a different form - to revive.” It’s human nature to get stuck in our career, and even while the world experiences accelerated change, too often, we creatively stagnate. In this important session, media producer and consultant Phil Cooke will share the three major re-inventions he’s experienced in his career, and the keys to jumpstarting your own. As we emerge from the COVID pandemic, there’s never been a better time to rethink our purpose and revive what God has called us to accomplish. |
Phil Cooke is a filmmaker, writer, speaker, media consultant, and founder of Cooke Media Group. His creative influence is seen in many of the most successful Christian and inspirational media projects in history. He’s produced film and television programming in more than 60 countries, and his client list includes major studios, networks and Christian organizations.
Executive producer of “Hillsong: Let Hope Rise,” Cooke also produced “The Insanity of God” and the television documentary “Inexplicable – Asia: The Great Wall and Beyond." His newest book, “Maximize Your Influence: How to Make Digital Media Work for Your Church, Your Ministry, and You” helps pastors and Christian leaders effectively share the gospel in today’s digital age.

Breakouts 2
- 2A - The Power of Documentary Story-Telling (two sessions)
Walk with Chris Sinclair for a rare behind-the-scenes look at the production of “Free Burma Rangers” as it was filmed in the war zones of Burma and Iraq. Hear about the impact of the full-length documentary on the lives of people caught in the horrors of war in Burma and Iraq, on Chris’ life, and on the lives of people throughout the nation who have viewed this limited-release production.
Session 2 will focus on the technical/production side of the documentary, including sifting through massive amounts of footage, editing as a remote team, working with translators, honoring cultural insights and working with cross-cultural subjects to tell the best story as well as audience response.
- 2B - Communicating Across Borders
Today’s society is increasingly tribalized and polarized, and ideological, cultural, and political borders separate affinity groups from one another. In this session, Tina Boesch will lead participants to consider how story, symbol, beauty, and mystery can help us communicate gospel truth graciously in this complex environment.
- 2C - From Fumes to Full: How to Fill an Empty Tank
“Innovate” is from the Latin word innovatus: "to renew, restore;" also "to change." The speed of change can leave us struggling to keep pace with new events, technology and news. But how do we renew and restore our souls in the process before we stall, or crash? Ben Hanna will discuss the importance of filling our “tanks,” which often run on empty.
- 2D - Rebranding: How We Changed Our Name Without Losing Our Identity
“It’s just a new logo, right?” Wrong! There’s more to a name change than you ever imagined. Learn from Mike Schueler about the rebranding mistakes and successes that transformed one of the SBC’s largest foundations.
