- Jim Edminson, institutional director for communications for the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina, has been chosen as presenter for this year's National Postal Forum to be held in Anaheim, CA on May 18-21. He is one of only five nonprofit professionals tapped representing the nonprofit industry at this year's Forum. Edminson will be featured during a special education track for nonprofit mailers. His session - Achieving Success as a Nonprofit Mailer - highlights his experience overseeing nonprofit direct mail programs for the last 18 years. More than 10,000 attendees are expected at this national event, which provides educational and networking opportunities for mailing industry professionals. Andrew Higgins, 8, is recovering at home after eye surgery on September 26. Andrew's father Jerry Higgins, former director of communications at Southeastern Seminary, said doctors at Duke Eye Center operated to relieve pressure on the eye due to juvenille glaucoma.
Doctors give the procedure a 50/50 chance of working, according to Jerry. However, the family is rejoicing because by relieving the pressure, doctors hope the procedure will allow Andrew to keep his eye.
Jerry said Andrew rested peacefully on the night of the 26th and had a very positive checkup the next morning. Jerry and his wife, Andrea, thank everyone for their prayers during the surgery and continued prayer in the difficult days ahead. posted: Sep 27, 2007

- Former BCAer and LifeWay employee Terri Lackey, now managing editor of Lutheran Woman Today, encourages anyone 50 or over to get their colonoscopies when their doctors schedule them. (Or ask your doctor for one if you are over 50.) On or around April 5, 2007, Terri learned she had Stage III colon cancer when she had her first colonoscopy at age 50. She had no symptoms. Though the cancer had not spread to her liver or lungs, it had gone to a couple of lymph nodes and so she is undergoing 12 treatments of chemotherapy through November. Jameson, currently the executive leader for public relations and resource development for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC), will become the 19th editor of the Recorder. He will succeed Tony W. Cartledge, who is retiring to become an associate professor of Old Testament at Campbell University Divinity School. Tunnell began her new job effective May 23.
