PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
The first officer’s meeting
of the 2002-03 year was held Sept. 20 in Alpharetta featuring lots of good
fellowship, business and, of course, food (we’re Baptists after all)!
As always, many thanks go to
Keith Beene, who always is on top of things - even when I’m not. Keith’s
knowledge of BCA is amazing. He is a great administrative assistant and, in
case you didn’t know, soon to be a father twice over. The Beenes are
expecting their second child in a few weeks. Please keep them in your thoughts
and prayers!
Planning for the 2003 BCA
Workshop in San Diego is well underway, as program co-chair Terry Barone
reported via conference call from Fresno. Program personalities are currently
being enlisted, so if you have suggestions for the committee, drop Terry an
e-mail at tbarone@csbc.com. Back

Officers discussed at length
the local BCA chapter concept, which the association is piloting this year
under the leadership of immediate past-president Diane Reasoner. Keith
circulated a list to the officers breaking down BCA membership by region. It
appears there are a lot of possibilities for this concept. If you have
questions or comments regarding local BCA chapters or would like to volunteer
to serve on the committee investigating the possibility, please e-mail Diane at
dreasoner@gabaptist.org.
Sara Horn, director of news
and media relations at Union University, has agreed to head up the scholarship
committee and has a committee in place and working. Thanks Sara! A deadline of
Dec. 13 has been set for submission of applications for 2004 scholarships. If
you need more information regarding BCA scholarships, contact Sara at shorn@uu.edu.
I know she’d love to hear from you! Back

Ty Wood, media services
director for the Florida Baptist Convention, will head up our audit committee
this year. We appreciate you, Ty! This will be an important audit, as the
association has gone several years without one.
Please take a minute to read
more about the meeting elsewhere in this newsletter. It’s going to be a great
year for BCA!
As always, I welcome your
comments and suggestions regarding BCA and its activities. Remember, we’re
all in this thing together, serving to further the cause of Christ! If you’re
not involved in BCA, find a way to be involved!
“Mercy, peace and love be
yours in abundance” (Jude 1:2).

OFFICERS’ MEETING
OVERVIEW
In addition to appointing Sara
Horn as scholarship committee chairman and Ty Wood as chairman of the audit
committee, BCA president Tim Yarbrough named past-president Diane Reasoner as
chairman of the nominating committee.
Tim Yarbrough also recommended the formation of
a BCA strategic plan “to formalize existing processes and goals, and to have
a guiding document and a timeline for accomplishing those goals.”
Membership vice president Robert Reeves
suggested a simplified process for approving new members involving
administrative approval of applicants rather than requiring recommendations
from current members. Back

Missions vice president Mark Snowden received
suggestions for mission projects during the 2003 San Diego workshop, April
24-26. Suggestions included volunteering at a soup kitchen, distributing the
“Jesus” film, or offering communications advice to local pastors during
personalized consultations.
Items tabled for further discussion included
possibilities for future meeting locations, scholarship funding options,
feasibility of multiple newsletter formats, and coordination of BCA
communications by a potential communications vice president.
The next officers meeting is scheduled for Feb.
21 in Dallas. If you have an item of business that you would like the officers
to discuss, contact BCA president Tim Yarbrough at tyarbrough@namb.net.
