BCA AWARDS DEADLINE IS FRIDAY
No more putting it off. If you are a BCA member in good standing (you
are up to date on your dues), it's time to look at your best work in
2001 and enter it in the 38th annual Wilmer C. Fields Awards
Competition. The deadline to mail your entries is Jan. 18.
The awards categories have changed some in 2002; a few were streamlined,
a few were broadened. This year, you have complete access to the awards
categories, awards entry form and an Adobe Acrobat file of the brochure
here on the web site. That means no claiming you never received or you lost your
workshop and awards entry brochure. It's available at the click of your mouse. Back to top
LOUISVILLE SLUGGER MUSEUM TO HOST OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION
Attendees at the 2002 BCA Workshop in Louisville will be greeted with an
opening night reception on Thursday, April 4, at the Louisville Slugger
Museum, home of the world-famous Slugger baseball bats. The museum is
located in downtown Louisville within close proximity to the BCA host
hotel, the Hyatt Regency. Back to top
The world's tallest bat, which is 120-feet tall, made of steel and
weighs 68,000 pounds, is located near the front entry to the museum. It
is an exact replica of Babe Ruth's 34-inch Louisville Slugger. This
steel bat is now a Louisville landmark. A giant, 17-ton sculpture of a
prehistoric ball glove entitled, Play Ball,"" is inside the facility.
The visitor's tour includes a brief, inspiring film, "Heart of the Game"
in the museum's theater. An interactive ball field is fun for all ages.
Share a dugout with Casey Stengel and Mickey Mantle. Step onto the field
and "batter up!" The Oval Room, the main museum gallery, includes great
visual histories about the history of baseball. You will also see a
portion of the Slugger factory, where the world-famous Louisville
Sluggers are crafted. And don't forget about mementos to take home as
you visit the museum gift shop. Besides baseball merchandise, hockey and
golf products are also offered.
For more information, check out the Louisville Slugger web site. Other sites of interest
available for tours to BCA workshop participants is Churchill Downs -- home of the
Kentucky Derby -- and Louisville Stoneware. Find out more about workshop activities.
WORKSHOP TO FEATURE FORMER THATCHER PRESS SECRETARY
International public relations consultant Harvey Thomas, one of the
keynote speakers for this year's Baptist Communicators Association
meeting April 4-6 in Louisville, can identify quite literally with those
who survived the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and
Pentagon. In 1984, while serving as press secretary for then British
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Thomas survived an IRA bomb blast that
devastated the conference hotel in Brighton where Thatcher and leading
members of the Conservative Party were gathered. He has a wonderful
testimony of God's faithfulness while he lay under some 10 tons of
rubble awaiting rescue on that fateful day. Back to top
A highly entertaining speaker, Thomas will be sharing about that and
many other experiences as he brings the keynote address during the
Friday morning plenary session at the Hyatt Regency. Thomas will also be
leading a workshop on Friday titled: "Worst Case Scenarios: Public
Relations Management in Times of Crisis."
Make plans now to attend the annual BCA workshop April 4-6 in
Louisville. See a complete schedule of speakers and workshop leaders. Find out
how to register for the workshop.
