CONTEST/WORKSHOP REGISTRATION DUE OUT THIS MONTH

Spring Training 2002 is the theme of the upcoming Baptist Communicators Association annual workshop April 4-6 at the Hyatt-Regency Hotel in Louisville, Ky...and for good reason. You won't want to miss one of the highest quality professional development opportunities anywhere. From Harvey Thomas, international public relations consultant and former communications director for British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, to A. Larry Ross, Billy Graham's personal public relations consultant, you'll hear from the best in the business about the best ways to reach your audiences. Add to that mix, the writing expertise of Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Angelo Henderson and a host of other Baptist communications experts, and you have a powerful line-up to help you reinvigorate your own work.

Information about this spring's BCA Workshop and awards competition is due to arrive in your mailboxes this month. The information packet includes registration forms for both the BCA Workshop and the Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition. Also information is available here on the website.  Back to top

Look over the awards information carefully because many of the categories have been changed - some streamlined, some broadened. All changes to the categories were made as a result of BCA members' input. Deadline to receive contest entries is Jan. 18, 2002, and entry fee remains at $25.

Entries will only be accepted from members who have paid their 2001-02 dues by Dec. 31. Regular membership dues are $75, students $25. Renewing members can send checks to BCA, PO Box 270187, Nashville, TN 37227.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE IS DEC. 14

BCA continues to help students train for careers in religious communication through its scholarship program and assist members with attending the annual workshop.

Each year, BCA awards a $1,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student and one $500 scholarship to a graduate student in the name of longtime members Al Shackleford and Dan Martin. The $1,000 Alan Compton/Bob Stanley Minority and International Scholarship is given to a student of minority ethnic or international origin.

Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA and have vocational aspirations in religious communications. Funds may be used for tuition, books, housing or food and are forwarded to the institution in which the student is enrolled. Back to top

BCA also offers a professional scholarship to assist a member with expenses related to attending the annual workshop April 4-6, 2002, in Louisville. The scholarship includes the cost of conference registration and lodging with the stipend not to exceed $1,000. The member's employer is expected to pay travel and other related expenses.

Members must include a resume with their application and a statement of why financial assistance is needed and how much money is required. Deadline to apply is Dec. 14. Winner(s) will be notified in late January and will be recognized during the workshop.

For applications for both the student and professional scholarships, please contact Keith Beene, BCA administrative coordinator, at 615-904-0152 or by email at bca.office@att.net. Application deadline is Dec. 14. Back to top
